Friends of Knowland Park Petition

TO: Oakland City Council Members, Planning Commissioners, and Planning Staff:

We, the undersigned, strongly oppose the proposed Oakland Zoo expansion into the heart of Knowland Park, the "crown jewel" of Oakland's parks.
We support actions to accomplish the following and urge you to use your power to block approval of the plan and:
1. Change the Zoo's proposed expansion plan to create a smaller, more ecologically, socially and fiscally responsible expansion closer to the existing Zoo's footprint. Impacts on neighboring homes and existing environmental resources must be central to the final design.
2. Protect the heart of Knowland Park's open space and the integrity of the ridgeline, consistent with Oakland's Open Space, Conservation and Recreation master plan.
3. Restore open space zoning above the ridgeline to protect it from development.
